Dapper Apple - single variety cider

why “the dapper apple”?

Brown’s apples are good looking apples, generous is size, slightly darker than pillar-box red with a smart pin-striped appearance; they dress a tree in an attractive, simple way, in much the same way children draw an archetypal apple tree, big red blobs on a dark green background (as you can see from the picture below). Also, Brown’s apples are “Sharp” apples, meaning they have low tannin content but decent levels of acidity. And we had to call it something.

the dapper apple in 500ml bottles

filtered, carbonated, pasteurised, sweetened with residual sugar

This particular batch of 500ml bottles is made from fruit picked and pressed in 2019, which we’ve kept under lock and key for 18 months - we have about 500 bottles of it, ready and waiting for the other Limited Editions to catch up. Although it is well-matured, the cider itself is light and fresh, has a simple fruity, juicy taste with modest acidic zest. The ferment stopped with the specific gravity at 1.004, so there is some residual sweetness from the juice. We’ve then filtered, carbonated and pasteurised the cider - the pasteurisation may not have been necessary but we don’t want to take any chances with exploding bottles. An easy-drinking, refreshing cider. Despite it being dry, this is perhaps one of our “starter ciders”, suitable for people who don’t drink cider to at least give it a go (without going down the dreaded and dreadful fruit-cider route), whilst also being a real, 100% juice cider that we hope will also appeal to cider afficianados.

Provenance

The apples come from a traditional orchard in Ashleworth, Gloucestershire, where we also get some Yarlington Mill, Dabinett and Sweet Alford fruit. We’ve been getting fruit from this farm for the past 5 years. It’s a charming spot.
