Competition: cider making day, Saturday 2nd November 2019
This is an opportunity for you to make cider, in an informal but informative way. We’ll take you through a bit of the the theory of cider-making, before giving you the opportunity to go through the whole process yourself. Of course, we’ll be there to guide you on how to use all the equipment safely. We’ll use different varieties of apple - cider apples, eating apples, a few cooking apples, maybe some perry pears if we have some available at the time - so you can taste the difference in the freshly made juice that leads to different tasting ciders (or perry). You’ll take home some of the cider you’ve helped make, so you can enjoy it at your leisure. And we’ll taste a few different ciders as we go along. We’ll provide a working lunch, with tea, coffee and biscuits on hand as well. We’ll aim to start at 10:00 and end at about 14:00, but nothing is obligatory (other than to follow sensible health and safety requirements) so you can leave later or earlier, as you choose.
And whatever your or our views, there will be NO talk about BREXIT!
Selecting and washing the fruit
Building the “cheese” and pressing the fruit
